INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE FORMS THE BACKBONE OF A SOCIETY AND SHAPES ITS SPIRITUAL PUBLIC. Dr. Tomson Msiska of Malawi University of Science and Technology presented on Indigenous Knowledge and the Management of Diseases at the ECLAS Africa Conference 2026 in Malawi. His presentation highlighted indigenous knowledge not simply as a collection of traditional practices, but as a system deeply connected to how communities understand health, disease, spirituality, and collective wellbeing. In times of pandemics, these systems can significantly influence how communities respond to public health measures and engage with governance. The conversation therefore moves beyond preserving traditional knowledge to understanding how it can meaningfully inform public health, policy and community resilience.
